Douglas, WY- MAY 29, 2020- Today the Miss Rodeo Wyoming Association announced the cancellation of the Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2021 pageant, originally scheduled for August 11-15, 2020 during the 2020 Wyoming State Fair in Douglas, WY. The decision was made after Miss Rodeo America, Inc. released a statement canceling the Miss Rodeo America 2021 pageant. Rachel Derner, Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2020 will continue her reign through 2021 and represent Wyoming at the Miss Rodeo America 2022 pageant held during the Wrangler National Finals in December 2021. She will be the first Miss Rodeo Wyoming in history to hold the title for two consecutive years.

“I am saddened by the announcement that the Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2021 pageant has been canceled,” said Crystal Myers, Miss Rodeo Wyoming National Director and Pageant Chair. “This was a tough decision to make and one that was not taken lightly. With the announcement of the cancelation of the Miss Rodeo America Pageant, in Las Vegas in December, we felt there was no other option for the Miss Rodeo Wyoming Association. “

Douglas, WY- On Friday, August 16, 2019, during the Wyoming State Fair PRCA Rodeo, the gold and jade crown of Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2020 was placed on the hat of Rachel Derner, Miss Laramie Jubilee Days 2019 by Hannah Ostheimer, Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2019. The four-day pageant was held in conjunction with the Wyoming State Fair. Derner is the 62nd titleholder and the 16th lady from Laramie to hold the title. The judges for this year’s pageant were J.T. Croft (Copeland, KS), Shelia Croft (Copeland, KS), and Jacquie Schwab (Goddard, KS). Rachel was judged in the categories of horsemanship, personality, and appearance. She was also awarded the photogenic and knowledge awards.

“I am honored to be Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2020. I look forward to sharing my love of rodeo, agriculture and all things western while traveling to the country’s best rodeos,”
Derner is the 22-year-old daughter of Justin and Tansie Derner, and big sister to Rebecca, Teigen and Sage. She has grown up being active in 4-H and FFA, using these organizations to find her voice for agriculture. In high school, she developed a passion for advocating for agriculture. Rachel served as the 2015-2016 Wyoming FFA State Reporter. With the public speaking experience she gained from FFA, and the deep-rooted family history in the cowboy way of life, the role of a rodeo queen seemed like a perfect fit for Rachel. She is pursuing a degree in Agriculture Communications from the University of Wyoming, where she also served as the captain of the Cowboy Joe Mascot Handlers. She hopes to use this degree to help farmers and ranchers make profitable decisions and help to preserve the agriculture industry. She believes in the agriculture industry, the sport of rodeo, cowboy heritage, and the western way of life, and can’t think of a better way to serve those people than as Miss Rodeo Wyoming.

The Miss Rodeo Wyoming 2019 Sponsors of the Year, Fremont Toyota of Sheridan and Douglas Hardware Hank- Larry and Diana Leake, were recognized during the pageant as well as the Miss Rodeo Wyoming Association 2019 Sponsor of the Year, Village Inn of Douglas.
